The Winter 2016 Lipstick Guide

With 2016 only two weeks in, many new fashion and beauty trends have already been appearing, one of which is the increasing demand in matte lipsticks.

My collection of lipsticks has slowing been growing over the past few months and my 2016 additions have made it to the ultimate matte lipstick top 5 for beating the Januray blues.

1. NYX

The Soft Matte Lip Cream colletion in particular is more than affordable, at only £5.50 each at feelunique.com. Here are the 3 colours I’ve chosen as best in the collection as well as best for the 2016 winter season:

           ‘Prague’                                ‘Cannes’                       ‘Copenhagen’

This particular collection from NYX offers a wide variety of shades but these three are ones which I have tried, tested, and think are the most versatile and appropriate – not only for seasonal purposes for also for everyday wear. ‘Prague’ is a great berry shade, easy to match with a wintery cable knit jumper and will definitely become one of your favourites in your make-up bag. ‘Cannes’ is that ultimate browny shade which is essential for any lip colour collection and absolutely necessary for the winter season with its warming tone. Also, very easy to match with. Finally, ‘Copenhagen’ is a little more daring but vital for a wintery night out. NYX offers an even darker shade, ‘Transylvania’, which is just a bit too gothy, so Copenhagen is a great in-between which will give you that pop of colour this winter. Also, these are all extremely long-lasting – one application in the morning has the potential to last almost all day.

2. The Balm Cosmetics

The Balm Cosmetics have have a great matte liptstick collection which is highly recommended by users and well-rated for quality as well. The ‘Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick’ is very much talked about so far this year and here is what I consider to be their best shade:

‘Charming’

I have yet to purchase this colour but it is in extremely high demand and out of stock everywhere. Debenhams probably do the best deal for it right now at £13.50 but this collection is available on a number of other beauty and make-up sites, although many don’t have this particular shade. I have, however, been able to borrow this product from a friend to try and the rich mauve colour is fantastic for everyday wear; it’s a very rich tone which gives a brown, matte and plumpy look. The quality is slightly better than the NYX collection above and remains affordable. Absolute must-have!

3. LA Splash

This is a very recent addition to the list, having only tried it for the first time this week but it has impressed me enough to make a personal purchase.

The shade ‘Lovestruck’ from LA Splash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse is a mid-range product on this list, priced at £9.95 on cocktailcosmetics.co.uk and is another beautiful shade of brown. The difference with this one is that it’s almost burgundy, with definite reddish undertones. I thought it’d be important to provide a sample of how this lipstick looks when applied because, noticeably, it mattifies into a much darker shade than what the container shows. I’d 100% recommend this product because it’s affordable, easy to apply (as are the others) and is the perfect winter-warmer shade.

A fresh new lipstick always perks up my day, and these have done the job so far this new year as the days have been getting more gloomy. So I hope this list of my tried, tested and now ultimate favourite lip-wears will give you an idea of some new things to try in your make-up world. Also, if you have any suggestions of your own, I’d love to know about them!
